Worried by insane human trafficking through land borders, the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Mrs Kemi Nandap has called on the Nigerian border communities to support the service by providing them with useful information for better and effective security in the Nigerian borders.

The Comptroller General made the call while interacting with the border communities at Maigari International border in Jigawa state during her official visit to the state, she said that “the service is in dear need of the support of the assistance of all stakeholders to ensure safety of our borders”.

Mrs Kemi Nandap expressed concern on the recent cases of human trafficking of underage girls, “one of it is the underage victims found and rescued from Ghana. The case really painful and disheartening to any right thinking parents”.

“To this regard, I’m pleading with the members of the Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and National Association of Transport Owners (NATOR) to please assist us in monitoring and providing us with any suspicious passengers at motor parks. Because most of acts is being carryout through our roads”.

The CG explained that that is in connection with the porous nature of Nigerian borders, “the service must put extra attention and involve well-meaning citizens to ensure all borders are safe and secured”.

According to her, “due to this the federal government is applying technological system and digitalising surveillance cameras and linkage to the national headquarters where all are being monitored and supervised 24/7”.

Addressing the officers and men of the immigration services at Maigari International border, the Comptroller General told the personnel that “under Renewed Hope Agenda under president Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to provides the service with latest improved technological working equipment to ensure effective manning all the boarders to be adequately safe and secured.

Mrs Nandap decried shortage of manpower as one of the agency’s challenges, “shortage of manpower is one of the challenge we are experiencing. Though it is not particular to immigration only, it affected so many places”.

She assured the personnel of the service’s welfare packages and motivation to all hardworking staff.
