Tears rolled uncontrollably from the eyes of family members, close associates, and sympathisers of the late Assistant Comptroller General of Immigration, Joseph Olutayo Dada, over the weekend as his remains were interred at his residence along Ijebu-Jesa Road, Ilesa, Osun State.
Dignitaries from all walks of life who graced the occasion were also seen in tears, sobbing and mourning during the burial of the departed officer, while at the same time extolling his virtues, describing him as an impeccable officer during his lifetime.
The late Olutayo Dada, 58, died on August 10, 2025, at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, after a brief illness, shortly after his elevation to the rank of Assistant Comptroller General of Immigration.
At the entombment site, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nana-Nandap, represented by ACG Mohammed Adamu, described the deceased as a source of pride to the Service in particular and Nigeria in general.
“The late Dada was a gallant officer of the Service, a man of principle, humility, and deep commitment to the ideals of nation-building. His professional journey was marked by diligence, discipline, and high dedication that earned him the respect of both colleagues and subordinates. He gave his best to the Service. Today, we gather to celebrate the life of a man whose impact and leadership will forever be felt in the Nigeria Immigration Service,” she said.
Addressing the congregation during the burial service, held at Foursquare Gospel Church, Ijebu-Jesa Road, Iludun Area, Ilesa, and attended by top NIS officers, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, represented by his Special Adviser on Security, Barrister Samuel Ojo, as well as the representative of Oyo State Governor, ACG Rasheed Adegoke and his wife, called on the family to remain strong in their moment of grief and put their trust in God.
“The news of the death of ACG Joseph Olutayo Dada came to us as a painful shock. He served his country with diligence, honour, and an unwavering sense of duty.
“He represented the values of hard work, integrity, and patriotism for which Osun State is known. His passing is not only a loss to his immediate family, but also to our state and the entire Nigeria Immigration Service,” Adeleke said.
Responding on behalf of the family, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Dada Adewoye appreciated all who attended the burial and commended the roles played by the Nigeria Immigration Service under the leadership of CG Kemi Nana-Nandap since Dada’s passing.
She, however, passionately pleaded for prompt attention to the late officer’s entitlements and presented the names of a few family members dear to the deceased for consideration for employment by the Comptroller General.
