The Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Sunday Karimi, has declared that he is not fighting Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo or any leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), stressing that his primary concern is to defend the interests of his constituents.
Karimi made the declaration on Thursday in Kabba during a town hall meeting with APC stakeholders and constituents from Kabba/Bunu and Ijumu Local Government Areas, as part of his ongoing engagement across the seven local government areas of Kogi West.
The senator said his regular consultations with the people were necessary because elections were won and lost at the grassroots.
“I am not out to fight. I am out to defend the people of my constituency. I am not fighting the governor or any leader of APC,” Karimi said.
He explained that the town hall meetings were designed to strengthen unity within the APC, improve communication with the grassroots and consolidate the party ahead of future elections.
According to him, his representation at the National Assembly has attracted several interventions to Kabba/Bunu and Ijumu, particularly in education, the provision of solar-powered water boreholes and empowerment programmes for cooperative societies.
Karimi also highlighted his intervention on the Kabba-Ilorin Road, noting that efforts involving about N2 billion had been made towards improving the road and easing transportation within the area.
He assured the people of Kogi West that he would continue to prioritise projects and programmes capable of improving their welfare, economic opportunities and overall living conditions.
Speaking at the meeting, Elder Olowo Dollar said the gathering provided an opportunity for constituents to interact directly with their senator and raise issues affecting their communities.
The representative of the Obaro of Kabba, Chief Adegbega, in his goodwill message, prayed for Karimi and other APC candidates, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Retired Colonel Dayo Abayomi commended the senator for his performance and called on APC members to support his bid for a second term.
He urged party members to remain united and vote massively for APC candidates during the elections.
Similarly, a representative of Ijumu Local Government said the people of the area had resolved to support Karimi’s re-election.
Former Kabba/Bunu Local Government Chairman, Moses Oluruleke, also reaffirmed his support for the senator and urged the electorate to back his return to the Senate.
Other APC leaders, stakeholders and women leaders, including Feyi Dada, expressed their support for Karimi and his re-election bid.
The meeting was attended by APC leaders, former lawmakers, traditional representatives, women and youth leaders, stakeholders and other party members from Kabba/Bunu and Ijumu.
Among those present were the APC leader in Kabba/Bunu, Elder Ben Olowo Dollar; former council chairman, Moses Oluruleke; former lawmakers Samuel Meseko and Alhaji Irukutu Yagba; representative of the Obaro of Kabba, Chief Adegbega; retired Colonel Dayo Abayomi; Hon. Yori Afolabi; Obayemi Comfort; and other party leaders.
