Afrobeats singer Adeleke Davido, popularly known as Davido, has opened up about his career and what lies ahead for him in music.

During an interview on the Official UK Afrobeats Chart Show with Eddie Kadi, the Nigerian singer reflected on his journey so far and shared his plans for the next phase.

Davido said he has reached major milestones in his career, including performing in different countries and earning multiple Grammy nominations over the past three years.

He explained that he was content with his achievements, adding that he now wants to return to his roots by making unapologetic African music as opposed to incorporating Western sounds to appeal to international audiences.

“This part of my career, I have performed everywhere, sold out every arena, I have been to three Grammys in the last three years. The music that is coming next is very Davido, it is very African. We have done it so I am not really looking to really do western sounds.”

He also spoke about his fanbase in South Africa, noting the strong support he receives there.

According to Davido, “80 per cent” of the citizens of South Africa know him and love his music.

Over the years, the singer has worked with several South African artists and has earned certifications within the country’s music industry.
