I’ll get police, Judiciary to be hard on crimes, corruption ― Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday night said he would encourage the police and the judiciary to be hard in his second tenure against crimes and corruption.

Speaking during a special interview with NTA, he expressed regret that corrupt persons and kidnappers were being shielded by people.

He said not until people exposed criminals among them, investors will not be willing to come to invest their money.

The president said government alone cannot build factories and employ the unemployed but its duty is to provide security and the enabling environment.

Asked what sort of cabinet he would have in his second term, he said people should trust his judgment on who to appoint since there was no major scandal from the outgoing cabinet.

He said he had told his ministers goodbye at least for the first term but fell short of saying whether or not they would be reappointed.

Buhari was not also categorical when asked whether he would fulfill his promise to expand the cabinet.

On his assessment of the service chiefs over tackling rampant insecurity, the president said that he did not want to make changes during an emergency.

According to him, if the head of the institution is disorganized, it would affect the rank and file.

He observed that something went wrong with the military between 1999 and 2014 without elaborating.
