The people of Ido community in Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State have lauded the leadership and members of the Rotary Club of Ibadan-Ologuneru over the donation of a borehole to the community.
Residents of the community who trooped out in their numbers during the inauguration of the project, said the borehole will help in alleviating the water challenges they faced.
The project was inaugurated by the Onido of Ido, Oba Muritala Gbolagade and the District Governor of 9125, Goddy Nnadi, who was represented by the assistant governor, Dayo Odetola.
Speaking at the event, Oba Gbolagade, on behalf of his subjects appreciated the club for the gesture, saying the people in the rural areas had been having challenges in accessing water.
He expressed joy that the borehole will bring an end to their sufferings.
We are happy about this project donated by the Rotary Club in our community and we want to appeal to other well-meaning Nigerians to give good work for humanity.
“We are grateful for the borehole. This is a project in support of the good works of the state governor, Mr Seyi Makinde and it will also complement various projects embarked upon by the governor and council chairman in the area of provision of infrastructure,” the Onido said.
Chairman, Advisory Council to the chairman of Ido Local Government Area, Bashiru Adesiyan, commended the club for coming to their rescue in the area of potable water.
Also speaking to the Nigerian Tribune, president of the club, Adedayo Akala, said the project is borne out of his desire to provide potable water for communities, adding that Rotary Club gave him the opportunity to provide for his immediate community.
He said donations of borehole is one of the Rotary Club’s area of focus, adding the project was not the only project embarked upon by the club during the Rotary year.
