IDE2024: We’re committed to raising young historians as architects of lasting peace — RHF

The Restored Heart Foundation (RHF) has described raising and nurturing young historians as a key ingredient in fostering a world characterized by enduring peace.

The Executive Director of the RHF, Mr. Samuel Oluwatimilehin, said this while giving his remarks during the organisation’s plenary session to commemorate the 2024 International Day of Education held on Thursday. He added that the discussions would serve as a catalyst for positive change, inspiring a commitment to fostering young historians for a future of lasting peace.

The plenary session themed; “Educational Narrative: Nurturing Young Historians for Lasting Peace,” was to foster a deep understanding of history as a tool for building lasting peace in our societies.

According to a statement released by the organisation on Friday, the event stands as a meaningful contribution to the broader dialogue on education and its pivotal role in shaping a peaceful world. 

“As young changemakers, we should accept the task of raising the young historians who will become the architects of lasting peace. We can create a future that powerfully embraces the sound of our past, leading us to unity, understanding, and cohabitation,” the statement quoted Mr. Oluwatimilẹhin as saying.

The plenary session which had speakers including; Raquel Daniel, Founder, Beyond The Classroom Foundation; Muhktar Halilu, Secretary-General FollowTheMoney International; Augustine Igweshi, Executive Director, Center for Peace Advocacy and Sustainable Development (CEPASD); Philip Idoko, Program Officer, Education as a Vaccine; and moderated by Vanessa Akpelan, Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning Officer, The RHF; engaged in insightful discussions, exploring innovative approaches to education that empower young minds to become historians.
