The people of Ibadan North- West Local Government Area of Oyo State have commended Mr Gbolahan Olayinka, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the North-West/South-West federal constituency of Oyo State in the House of Representatives during the last general election for embarking on people-oriented projects in his constituency.
Olayinka, despite not winning the election has started giving out scholarship to indigent brilliant pupils from primary school level to tertiary institution.
He also distributed foodstuff and cash gifts worth hundreds of thousands of naira to the underprivileged during the Easter celebration.
Speaking at a forum organised by the Olayinka Gbolahan Ibikunle Campaign Organisation in Ibadan, at the weekend, community members comprising Alhaji Adewolu Oluokun, Alhaji Jelili Agboola, Alhaji Akeem Adedipupo, Alhaji Bosun Ajuwon, among others said Olayinka had put smiles on the faces of the people who had been neglected by successive governments.
Also speaking, the coordinator of the organisation, Mr Nurudeen Ahmed, said though Olayinka did not win, he did not allow the outcome of the election to weigh him down and prevent him from delivering dividends of democracy.
He said pupils who would benefit from the scholarship will be drawn from across the 11 wards of the council.
Speaking to the Nigerian Tribune, Olayinka said that aside community development projects, he would organise a football competition tagged: Under 21 football competition for youths in Ibadan North-West Local Government Area, where the best three teams would be awarded cash gifts.
