I want to seek the indulgence of all Ibadan people, most especially the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), to continue to fight for the creation of Ibadan State.
Ibadan indigenes should never lose sight of Ibadan state. I don’t know why ‘Ibadanmesi’ is so silent these days on the struggle. Ibadan needs to join other old regional capitals which for many years have become separate states i.e Enugu (Enugu State) and Kaduna (Kaduna State).
This is a wakeup message; Ibadan people need to turn this into, a reality for your ancestors to be proud of you and for the unborn generation not to blame you.
During the reign of late Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade, I can remember vividly, whenever there was a public function, this monarch would not forget to say his mind by declaring, “give Ibadan her state; the town has all it takes to stand on its own” but since his demise and since Ibadan sons became governors, the new Olubadan and Ibadan people have been very silent, perhaps because of the leadership roles enjoyed by the town over other towns in the State. This is a challenge, which needs to be looked into.
