The Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 600 personnel to ensure the peaceful conduct of the forthcoming by-election in Ibadan North Federal Constituency.
This deployment was announced during the August edition of the monthly Commandant’s Briefing, held on Thursday at the NSCDC Conference Hall, Area “A” command headquarters, Railway Quarters, Iyaganku, Ibadan.
The briefing, which included top brass officials such as heads of departments and units, Area Commanders, sectional heads, unit commanders, and Divisional Officers, saw the Commandant, Augustine Padonu, outline the NSCDC’s preparedness and commitment to ensuring a peaceful and secure electoral process.
Speaking during his briefing, Commandant Padonu said that the NSCDC would work in collaboration with the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies to ensure absolute security across the state during the election.
He also assured that the NSCDC would work hand-in-hand with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to uphold the integrity of the election and guarantee a credible, free, and fair voting process.
“As part of our efforts, we will ensure the protection of lives and properties, as well as the safeguarding of critical national assets and infrastructure. We are fully committed to ensuring that the election process is peaceful, secure, and devoid of any disruptions,” the Commandant said in a statement by the Command’s spokesman, SC Samuel Opebiyi.
The Commandant also assured the public of proper conduct by the personnel deployed for the election, combined with the highest level of professionalism and integrity while discharging their duties.
He warned any individual intending to disrupt the election process that there would be zero tolerance for such actions.
The Commandant stated, “We will not hesitate to resist any attempts to cause violence or disorder during this election.
“Our personnel will be on high alert, ensuring the safety of all citizens and the protection of democratic rights.”
He encouraged all eligible voters in the Ibadan North Federal Constituency to come out and exercise their franchise, stressing that their participation is crucial in sustaining democracy.
