In its practical commitment to promote the heritage of Nigeria as it relates to the museum, the Ibadan Museum Society has taken a giant stride to involve cultural custodians in organising arts, crafts and cultural event.
The Chairman, Ibadan Museum Society, Prince Gani Adebiyi disclosed at a press conference at the National Museum of Unity Ibadan, recently, said the society commitment towards promotion and preservation of Nigerian cultural heritage among Nigerians.
Adebiyi said the IMS is going into partnership with traditional rulers who are the custodians of culture to organise an exhibition of arts, crafts and culture.
“We will in this direction be visiting the royal fathers (Obas and Baales) for them to support our mission.”
According to Adebiyi, “our objective is to promote and support the activities of National Museum of Unity and activities of other museums in South-West states of Nigerian.
“We are also on ground to encourage communities and families to donate artifacts to the museums as well as engaging in international cultural exchange programme with other museums worldwide.
“There are plans ongoing for national and international seminars and symposia relating to culture. The museum society has collaborated with other museums both within and outside Oyo State with several courtesy visits to museums in South West to make our intention known.
“We are proud to say that the Matron of the society and daughter of Alaafin of Oyo, Arewa Folashade Adeyemi, whose appointment as the matron of the society has raised the profile of the society and has also helped in opening newer door in the area of meeting families and people with revere heritage and culture.”
