Ahead of its November 15, 2025 National Elective Convention, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is set to inaugurate the organising committee on Tuesday, September 2.

The National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) has 110 members, including all PDP governors. Adamawa State governor, Mr Ahmadu Fintiri, is the chairman; his Osun State counterpart, Senator Ademola Adeleke, is the first deputy chairman, while the governor of Enugu State, Mr Peter Mbah, is the secretary of the committee. The second deputy chairman is Kabiru Tanimu Turaki.

Senator Adulphus Wabara, who is the chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) and Senator Bukola Saraki are two former presidents of the body, who are members of the Senate, in addition to the current Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro.

The national chairman of the PDP and former deputy national chairman (South), Chief Olabode George, are also among the big names in the committee.

The convention, which will be held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, was approved by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party during its 101st meeting.

In furtherance to the development, the National Publicity Secretary, Honourable Debo Ologunagba, announced on Thursday that the NCOC, which has the primary task of planning the event, would be inaugurated on September 2.

“The 110-member PDP 2025 National Convention Organising Committee has His Excellency Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State as Chairman, His Excellency, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State as vice chairman and His Excellency, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State as secretary.

“The NWC charges all leaders, critical stakeholders and teeming members of the PDP to remain united, focused and continue to work together towards the success of the PDP 2025 Elective National Convention scheduled to hold in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital on Saturday, 15th to Sunday, 16th November, 2025,” a statement by Ologunagba partly read.

The party insisted that the Ibadan convention will go ahead in spite of the ripples its decision to zone the 2027 presidential ticket to the South have generated.

On Thursday, one of the presidential hopefuls, Dr Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, maintained his ground that the decision was both “unconstitutional” and a deliberate act to shut some members out of the contest for the ticket.

Speaking on Arise News TV programme, Morning Show, Olawepo-Hashim argued that Nigerians did not care what region or zone produced the President but were out for a “competent presidential candidate and President” who would address the country’s myriads of development challenges.

He noted that the zoning arrangement would not allow for the emergence of competent personalities to vie for the spot.

But Ologunagba stated that while the PDP recognised the democratic rights of members to express their feelings, it would not be prevented from holding its convention or taking a decision on the zoning of the presidential ticket.
