Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has disclosed that his first furniture allowance was used for empowerment in his constituency.
Obasa made this known while speaking to representatives of Local Government and Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) at the LG/LCDA Leadership Summit on Thursday in Lagos.
He charged them to have good intentions towards the betterment of the people.
The Speaker urged them to uphold what is right and ensure that the people are served.
The lawmaker advised them to stop empowering their constituents with two cartons of Indomie and ₦20,000, urging them instead to have the fear of God.
“It is important for you to know that I used my first furniture allowance, received from the Lagos Assembly as a first-timer, for empowerment such as grinding machines, JAMB forms, etc.
“The good intention is to think about the people. Let us have a good mindset from now.
“So, let us do what is right, and the only thing is to ensure that we serve our people. Let us empower our people.
“You want to empower our people and you are giving them two boxes of Indomie, ₦20,000—is that empowerment? Let us have the fear of God,” he said.
Meanwhile, he urged them to work assiduously towards ensuring that the votes received for the party do not continue dwindling.
“We keep on complaining that our votes are dwindling, and you are the ones closer to the people.
“We are not doing enough. But do not see it as if it is not my business. Before you know it, eight years is around the corner.
“It is not about benefits but about how we serve our people. It is only when you serve the people that you gain,” he said.
