The group is called Onpoint Small Business Success (OSBS) on Facebook. Its members are women.
The founder, Mrs. Oluwaseun Akinlotan, currently lives in the United States. She told Saturday Tribune how she began the initiative to raise women entrepreneurs with her smartphone.
“I wanted to make sure that any woman who doesn’t have capital and can’t afford an office space, but has a smartphone and a business idea, can grow her business from anywhere in the world.
“My main goal is to help women give up their excuses. The most common excuse is capital. The second is location. We have heard of a lot of success stories of women who started out of nothing and have been able to build something out of nothing.
“I am passionate about helping women amplify their message, get visibility and build profitable brand online. If you don’t have capital and you don’t have money to rent an office as long as you have a smartphone, and a business idea, you are good to go.”
Born in Lagos State, but raised in the capital city of Ogun State, Abeokuta, Akinlotan mentors over 11,000 women on her Facebook platform. The group which operates in two sub-division, the freemium and platinum, has all together raised over 20,000 businesses from its members who are spread across Nigeria, United States and the United Kingdom.
Mrs. OluwaseunAkinlotan is a certified brand strategist, social entrepreneur and the Chief Executive Officer of OnPoint Success International.
“We started in June 2015 and it is about empowering women to become better versions of themselves. It is mainly focused on women entrepreneur without capital to start their own businesses. We teach them. We mentor them. We help them to start and grow their businesses online. We are more focused on the online platform. For example, if people want to start their business and do not have the capital, we provide support and encouragement and motivate them. We do a lot of trainings and seminars that are geared towards starting and growing a successful business using online platforms.
“We have a freemium version on Facebook with 11,000 members drawn from Nigeria, US, UK and all over the world. We also have a premium version which is a more closely knitted version with forty members, Akinlotan said.”
From her base in the United State, Akinlotan organises virtual seminars, direct and group mentorship training to her members. She recently organised a banquet and award event in Abeokuta, Ogun State in honour of outstanding members.
The award event dubbed Wowzified celebrated about six women entrepreneurs who were able to grow their businesses from nothing.
