Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, on Wednesday, explained that his decision to vie for the senate was in yielding to arguments by several people that he shouldn’t be selfish with his political network, experience and qualification garnered over the years.
Speaking at a meeting with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Oyo State chapter, in Ibadan, Ajimobi said he was fulfilled being governor twice and never wanted to be senator again until he bought into arguments to let the state benefit from his political experience and expertise.
Ajimobi explained that his real intent for vying for Senate was to use his influence to attract great socioeconomic developments from the national level to the state.
He said he was convinced that if God willed and acknowledged his good intent, he will emerge Senator in Saturday’s election.
“I never wanted to be Senator again because I was fulfilled having being Governor for two terms. But people came to me that I should not be selfish in my desires and consider myself alone. They said I was the best.”

“In convincing me, they asked me what Oyo had gained from the Senate over the years. I really want to bring goodness to the state considering my political network, experience and qualification.”
“I have said if I have good intention and will do well, I should get there and if I don’t have good intention, I shouldn’t win,” Ajimobi said.
The meeting also saw Ajimobi sell the All Progressives Congress gubernatorial candidate, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, to Christians, assuring that Adelabu was tolerant of all religions.
Noting that Adelabu had a Christian cum Muslim background, he said Adelabu was sure to maintain religious harmony.
This is as he said it was a must for the next governor to be accomplished as Adelabu and pledge to continue on the track of socioeconomic development that had been laid.
In his remarks, Chairman, CAN, Oyo State, Pastor Benjamin Akanmu assured of prayers for Adelabu.
He said the CAN would extend the support that it had given the Ajimobi administration to Adelabu towards ensuring continued development of the state.
