THE 16-year-old wife of Mutiu Agbaje, who was shot dead last Wednesday at Oke Ide in Ota, Ogun State, has cried to the government for help, saying that with her husband’s death and her present state, she has been rendered helpless.
It will be recalled that Mutiu, in his 20s, was a supporter of Honourable Oladipupo Adebutu and was shot dead shortly after Adebutu parted with party members he had gone to see.
The party members were reportedly arrested by the police based on a complaint by one Prince Segun Seriki.
The pregnant teenager, Sarah, while speaking with Metro, said that Mutiu told her he was going for a rally at Aiyetoro area of the state, only for her to later hear that he had been killed.
“He did not fight with anybody to the best of my knowledge. Nobody told us that any evil would happen. I am six months pregnant for him.
“I am sure he was killed by politicians from opposition party because he was in their midst. He did not have any issue with any of his party members. He was not a troublemaker in his lifetime. I want the government to help me because I am now helpless,” she said.
Sarah, who is a fashion designing apprentice, said that she moved into late Mutiu’s house when she became pregnant for him, adding that her husband was a good fellow, who loved her with all his heart.
Also, the deceased’s stepmother, who simply gave her name as Alhaja Riskat, lamented that the deceased only recently brought his wife to her after he had impregnated her.
“His father died some years ago and I have been his mother,” she said.
Narrating how Mutiu’s news got to her, Alhaja Risikat said: “I was expecting him and his wife, but I did not see them. Later, one of his siblings knocked on my door while I was sleeping, only for him to tell me that Mutiu had been killed in Oke-Ide. I passed out immediately.
“When I became conscious, I found myself outside and Mutiu’s mother was naked, as she had pulled off her clothes. I insisted that I must see his body. I saw him and I thought he was not dead; his intestine was out of his stomach. I am not happy at all.
“They have really destroyed my life. Mutiu was not a hooligan, he never smoked cigarettes or marijuana. He had a white Muslim garment on when he was killed. He was an Alfa, a Muslim cleric.
“His corpse is in Ifo area of the state and he is from Iyesi area in Ota, Ogun State. His wife is pregnant and his mother is helpless. The government should please help us,” she said amid tears.
Speaking in a telephone interview on the case, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that the command was investigating it.
On the release of the corpse to the family, the PPRO said that it would be done once an autopsy had been conducted.
