The nurse, who administered drugs on Late Senator Isiaka Adeleke shortly before he died on the 23rd of April, 2017, Mr Alfred Aderibigbe, on Thursday said he carried out cardiac massage to resuscitate the politician in his Ede country home when he discovered that he was not breathing.
Testifying before the coroner inquest set up by Osun State government to investigate the death of the politician, the nurse said around 4.00am on the fateful day, Adeleke sent some of his aides, including his friend Dipo Faborode to his house to call him.
Aderibigbe, who was being led in evidence by his counsel, Barrister Lekan Alabi said Adeleke was hypertensive and had gaouty arthritis, saying “I treated him as a nurse and not as a doctor and I never prescribed any drug for him throughout my 20 years of relationship with him”.
According to him, “when I got to him in the early hours of 23rd of April, I firstly took his BP, which was 130/80. His temperature was 37.4%, respiration 26, while his pulse was 86. All his vital organs were okay.
While listing the drugs he administered on Adeleke to include two vials of hydrocortisone, one ample of Valium 10ml and two analgin of 50ml, Aderibigbe, who testified in Yoruba language said “he was already sleeping after taking the drugs and his breathing was normal. I waited till the drip I set for him finished and I left around 7.50am”.
He continued, “I told Dipo to stay with him until I come back. When I came back, Dipo was behind me and Adeleke still maintained the position I left him on the bed when I was leaving. I called him “Gov”, but he did not respond”.
“I had to carry put cardiac massage to resuscitate him. But, he could not wake up and me and Dipo had to raise alarm. They quickly brought his Escalade jeep and drove against the traffic from Aisu end of Ibadan-Gbongan expressway to Biket Specialiist Hospital, Osogbo”, Aderibigbe asserted.
