Mosquitoes are a challenge in virtually every society especially in environments where grasses thrive; backyard gardens, veranda with flower beds, driveways and other outdoor places around the house where people relax at night
And it is an incontrovertible fact that eradicating mosquitoes is virtually impossible in the face of the more than 3,500 mosquito species across the world
There are however many ways to prevent mosquitoes from evading your backyard and spoiling your relaxation especially on barbeque nights or garden picnics.
You can keep your backyard mosquito free and this can be done without fancy equipment or dangerous heavy chemicals.
Keeping your garden or compound clean of mosquito requires little but conscious efforts and it usually borders on changing lifestyle especially in terms of hygiene.
You can keep mosquitoes away from your backyard by taking the following steps:
Put an end to stagnant water; eradicate little ponds that litter your backyard and serve as breeding points for mosquitoes, create a channel for the water to run so you can have dry ground even after heavy rains.
Ensure there are no containers holding water: Used containers that collect water around the backyard and have no drains are a good breeding point for mosquitoes, clear such water holding litters.
Ensure your waste bin is closed always: Open bins collect water and this, in addition to waste create a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes.
Ensure you have plants that can repel bugs and mosquitoes
Call your local mosquito control programme.
If you are close to a marsh, fumigate frequently and use mosquito repellant nets especially on garden or outdoor furniture.
Keep doors closed to keep mosquitoes out.
Set homemade mosquito traps.
