You are a new face on the entertainment scene but you are already getting attention. How do you feel about your new level?
To be honest, I’m not sure I can put it into words. I wake up every morning with this feeling of excitement and it feels really good. I’m really happy and that’s me being modest about it.
You didn’t just start today, you must have been coming from a long way, how would you describe the journey so far?
It’s been an incredible journey. When I look back on it today, I just say to myself “it was worth it”. It wasn’t an easy ride to get to this stage, I have to say that. Some challenges open you up to other possibilities; others just push you real hard. How you come back from that is totally up to you. And I’m grateful to God and everyone who stood by me up to this very moment. I’m thankful.
The industry is currently filled with artistes that are talented and full of positive vibes, how do you want to make a name for yourself?
The talent is really not enough. Like you said, there are so many talented artistes in Nigeria right now. For me, the plan is to stand out, make a unique style and stay in the faces of music lovers. I also want to show everyone what I’ve got to offer; believe me it’s a lot of work but we will get it done.
You are signed to Bob Braine Entertainment (BBE), what led you to the label and how has it been since you joined?
I think we should just give the full credit to Twitter. My label discovered me on Twitter. I think that was the beginning of my dream because it didn’t seem like it was real. Still feels that way, like it was just yesterday. And it’s been a really smooth ride. From the first day I landed in Lagos from Jos to this day, we’ve been working. We have set higher goals for ourselves and we are working towards achieving them. That has been the spirit in the BBE camp since I arrived.
Since you dropped your first single in 2021, you seem to be keeping the heat on yourself. How has it been?
I am just taking it one step at a time. Actually, I released my first single under BBE recently. Together with the label, we decided to keep it that way because we were working on GAL (Give Attention and Love). And having so much music outside without a decent enough control didn’t feel like the right move. And now GAL is here.
The rate at which musical contents are being released daily is mind-blowing, what do you hope to achieve with your style of music?
When you look at how fast Nigerian music is moving and how far we have come, it gives so much hope to people like us. It shows that there’s still so much out there to achieve. I’m gunning for the highest level possible. I would like to push myself to that point. I have learnt from the greats and those that have done it before me. I am learning from those who are currently doing it too. There’s a lot to learn and I want to use it to my advantage to reach my goals.
What inspired you to get into music?
The answer to this is Music. Listening to good music and my idols got me so interested in music. I found out I wanted to do what they were doing. Make good sounds and good music, and in turn make people feel really good when they listen to me, the same way they made me feel. This was all the inspiration I needed.
For somebody who hails from Jos where other top music acts also came from, what’s your feeling about your hometown?
J Town is a talent headquarters. Jos has been the starting point for many top music acts in Nigeria. Seeing the likes of MI Abaga, Jeremiah Gyang and Ice Prince make something of themselves really inspired many of us in Jos. It showed us that we can do better too. Jos will always be home for me.
You just joined Scoop Universal PR brand, what are you hoping to achieve with them?
Their reputation precedes them. And that’s enough for me. I know they’re one of the best in the game and a master of their craft. So I’m counting on getting the worldwide recognition and success attached to a brand as unique as Scoop Universal. I’m excited about what the future holds and know we will achieve great things together.
What should your fans expect from you now moving forward?
Good music. Like wine, as time goes on, you will be getting the best out of DEE3. Hopefully some features too, because at some point I’d love to work with some of the amazing talents in the country and world at large.
If you are not doing music, what would you have been doing?
I think football. I grew up as an athlete; it’s still a part of me. So I think if I wasn’t doing music I’d be exploring that.
Tell us about your life outside music?
The truth is that there’s not much to tell. I enjoy being indoors with my friends. Enjoying music and watching movies. I love being surrounded with friends and loved ones. I enjoy skating too. And my food, love good food. Trying new stuff too, no matter what it is.
