REPRIEVE came the way of the people of Alor-Agu Community in Igboeze-South Local Government Area of Enugu State, at the weekend, following the move by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to provide cottage hospital and reticulation of potable water in the area.
Maka Ndigbo learnt that the people of Alor-Agu have been suffering untold hardship due to lack of social amenities such as road, water and health facilities in the area.
It is against this backdrop that the people of the community at the weekend, expressed gratitude to Governor Ugwuanyi for awarding contracts for the construction of a Cottage Hospital and reticulation of potable water across the community.
President of Alor- Agu Progressive Union (AAPU), Chief Damian Omeje and the member representing Alor-Agu in Igbo Eze South Local Government Transition Committee, Honourable Emmanuel Ik-Jonathan on behalf of the people of the area, described the coming projects as a mark of good governance on the part of the governor considering that they were being executed in a remote area such as theirs.
According to him, the community will provide an enabling environment for the successful completion of the projects by getting its members to play their own civic roles effectively as the projects come underway.
“We are overjoyed by the avalanche of love shown to our community by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Honourable Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, for simultaneously awarding the construction of a Cottage Hospital and water reticulation project through the MDGs.
“Since the news flew in about the award of these projects, the community has been thrown into a theatre of celebration considering the burden taken off the shoulder of an average son and daughter of
Alor- Agu by the governor’s gesture.
“This is because the community has existed without a hospital and every indigene of the community treks a long distance to fetch drinking water from the location of the existing community borehole
dug over forty years ago”, they added.
They prayed God to grant the governor protection and wisdom throughout his tenure and maintained that they would continue to support his administration to succeed in all ramifications, adding
that “one good turn deserves another”.
Speaking at a brief flag off ceremony to commence the construction of the Cottage Hospital and the Water Reticulation projects, the contractor handling the Cottage Hospital, Chief Chijioke Okorie, said
that the hospital would be ready for use in sixty days time.
Okorie, who is the Chief Executive Officer of M-Kotech Nig Limited, equally commended the governor and the MDGs office in the state for finding his company worthy to carry out the building project and
promised to deliver the project as directed by the state government.
Also speaking, the manager of the construction company handling the water reticulation project, Mr Ezeaku Alphonsus, said that though the initial contract was to construct a solar powered mini borehole, the company would heed the request of the community to reticulate water across different junctions of the community from the existing borehole to ease the stress of the residents.
