THE Maigatari Local Government Council (LGC) of Jigawa has empowered 460 women with N4,000 each, under its economic empowerment programme.
The Information Officer in the council, Alhaji Sulaiman Daudu, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Sunday.
Daudu said the council Chairman, Alhaji Sani Dahiru while disbursing the funds to beneficiaries explained that the gesture was to assist them to enhance their home petty trading.
He explained that the women were selected from 11 wards in the council.

“The Maigatari LGA has disbursed about N2 million, to 460 women under its economic empowerment programme.
“During the disbursement, the chairman of the council, Alhaji Sani Dahiru, said the programme was meant to assist women to improve their home petty trade.
“And each of the beneficiaries received N4,000,” he said.
According to him, Dahiru assured that the council would maintain the tempo, so as to ensure speedy socio-economic development of the area.
The spokesperson of the women, wife of a member representing the area in Jigawa State House of Assembly, Hajiya Rahmu Habu, commended the council for the gesture and called on the beneficiaries, to ensure good use of the package to enhance their trade.
“One of the beneficiaries, Malama Saude Maina, thanked the council for its foresight to assist women and described the gesture as assisting the community.
“She then reaffirmed their support to the local government council, state and Federal Government, under the umbrella of the All Progressive Congress (APC),” Daudu said.
