Children love ice-cream. They enjoy the iced, deliciously sweetened and creamy taste of the frozen snack so much that if you offer to buy a crying baby an ice cream, he or she will not only keep quiet but this/her eyes, filled with excitement would dart at your hands and all corners wondering where the ice cream would spring from.
This weekend, Exquisite Food is suggesting that rather than take them to an ice cream shop for a licking galore, it would be more fun to make it a home affair by making an ice cream with the kids.
It is called an ‘ice’ cream for a reason. So, if the area where you live does not enjoy constant electricity supply to freeze the cream after preparation, then it is better to opt for the ice cream palour.
But if your area enjoys constant electricity supply or if you can afford to switch on your generator for hours long to freeze the ice cream in your deep freezers, then this recipe and direction are for you!
Exquisite Food sought the opinion of a popular ice cream palour owner in Bodija, Ibadan, Mr Mike Hastrupp, on how to make a do-it-at-home banana ice cream, which are most kids’ favourite flavour. Mr Hastrupp was excited to share the recipes and direction so that kids who are currently on holiday could have fun with the making of the frozen dessert. “Banana ice cream is very easy to prepare. You do not need any ice cream machine to do it. All you need is a blender and a working freezer. It is healthy, kid-friendly and a good way to use up your bananas before they go bad” he said.
Direction:
1. Cut ripped banana into chunks and freeze for about six hours.
2. Put the frozen banana chunks into a blender.
3. Add condensed milk, with blueberries into the blender and blend.
4. Put the banana paste in the freezer for about three hours.
5. Garnish the ice cream with nuts, whipped cream, strawberries, chocolate, etc.
