Holiday token: Crediting senators not new, but always done in secret — Shehu Sani

Published by

Shehu Sani, the former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central, has revealed that crediting lawmakers’ accounts is not a new phenomenon in the National Assembly but has always been secretive.

Tribune Online reports on Wednesday that the Senate President, while addressing his colleagues before the adjournment motion was moved, mentioned that money had been sent by the Clerk of the National Assembly to the senators for their holidays.

“In order to enable all of us to enjoy our holidays, a token has been sent to our various accounts by the Clerk of the National Assembly,” Akpabio was quoted in the viral video.

The video has, however, generated criticisms from Nigerians who described the lawmakers as unbothered by the current situation in the country.

Reacting to the development on Twitter, Shehu Sani, who was a member of the 8th Senate, said sending money to legislators has been in existence for a long time in the National Assembly.

According to him, funding lawmakers’ accounts for holidays has always been done in secret until Akpabio decided to make it a public revelation.

He tweeted, “Crediting the Legislators accounts are done under mute button, the Uncommon Senate President mistakenly pressed the alarm.”
