Nigerian celebrity chef, Hilda Baci, has officially set a new Guinness World Record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice, weighing 8,780 kilogrammes (19,356 lb 9 oz).
Tribune Online reports that thousands of Nigerians gathered on Friday, September 12, at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, to witness the former Guinness World Record holder attempt the feat.
The record, achieved in partnership with Gino at Victoria Island, Lagos, was confirmed by Guinness World Records on Monday.
Announcing the feat on X, the body wrote, “New record: Largest serving of Nigerian style jollof rice – 8,780 kg (19,356 lb 9 oz) achieved by Hilda Baci and Gino in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.”
Baci, who gained fame for her headline-making cook-a-thon, has once again drawn global attention to Nigerian cuisine.
Ahead of the record confirmation, Guinness World Records had shared words of encouragement with the celebrity chef. The organisation reposted a video from the Friday event on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “What’s cookin’?
“Best of luck to @hildabacicooks who’s attempting a new record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice today.”
