High society mourns socialite Bisi Edionseri, ‘Cash Madam’

It was a morning unlike any other in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The hum of the city seemed muffled as if even the bustling streets were grieving. News broke just after dawn, Alhaja Adebisi Edionseri, the flamboyant socialite who reigned supreme in the 70’s and was nicknamed ‘Cash Madam’ by popular Juju musician, Chief Ebenezer Obey, had passed away.

The deceased life had been a tapestry of opulence and influence.

Her passing was announced by one of her sons, Adebayo who hinted she passed away at 89 during a brief illness and she was buried at her residence in Ibara, Abeokuta according to Islamic rites.

Born into modest beginnings, the socialite rose to fame in the 1980s as a trailblazing entrepreneur, becoming the favourite of musicians in her time.

Her larger-than-life persona was matched only by her generosity. For decades, she funded scholarships for underprivileged children, sponsored mosque buildings, and engaged in numerous poverty alleviation gestures.

Tributes poured in from politicians, business magnates, Nollywood stars, and ordinary Nigerians who had been touched by her philanthropy.

Bisi Edionseri was gone. But in the hearts of those who admired her, her legacy would shine forever.
