It was joy in double measure for veteran journalist and media entrepreneur, Yinka Agboola, as friends, colleagues, and dignitaries from across Nigeria will gather in Ibadan to celebrate two remarkable milestones: his 60th birthday and the 20th anniversary of Parrot Xtra Magazine, the widely-read publication he founded.
The grand celebration, set to hold on 5 May, 2025 at the Exellesor, Basorun, Ibadan will feature the Southwest Leadership and Legacy Summit with attendance by the Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, his Ekiti State counterpart, Governor Abiodun Oyebanji a blend of the media elite, academia, business leaders, and government officials,who will all unite to honor a man whose career has been defined by integrity, resilience, and a deep passion for storytelling.
In his remarks, Yinka Agboola, reflected on his journey:”Turning 60 is a gift, but being able to say Parrot Xtra has endured and thrived for two decades is the true blessing. We’ve told difficult stories, celebrated great Nigerians, and remained steadfast in our mission to inform, inspire, and sometimes provoke thought.”
Founded in 2005, Parrot Xtra Magazine quickly rose to prominence for its fearless journalism, unique editorial voice, and focus on grassroots issues, often giving voice to the voiceless. From hard-hitting investigative reports to human-interest stories and lifestyle features, the magazine has remained a staple in Nigeria’s media landscape.
The event will feature music, poetry, tributes, and the unveiling of a commemorative edition of the magazine, highlighting iconic stories, interviews, and covers from the past 20 years.
A short documentary on Agboola’s life and the evolution of Parrot Xtra will also be screened.
The event will also feature a cake-cutting ceremony, a live band performance, and many other side attractions.
Yinka Agboola’s double celebration is more than a birthday or an anniversary, it promises to be a testimony to a life dedicated to truth, service, and excellence in journalism.
