Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has tragically died after the helicopter he was traveling in crashed in a mountainous region in northwestern Iran.
Rescue teams discovered the crash site on Monday morning, following over 12 hours of uncertainty about the whereabouts of the president and his foreign minister.
“President Raisi, the foreign minister, and all other passengers aboard the helicopter were killed in the crash,” a senior Iranian official told Reuters.
Iran’s Mehr news agency also reported that “all passengers of the helicopter carrying the Iranian president and foreign minister were martyred.”
