According to the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN), Hauwa told the court to document the divorce because her husband had made pronouncements to that effect.
She told the court that her husband had earlier made two pronouncements of divorce to her before a third pronouncement sometime in September.
She told the court that since her husband had made three pronouncements according to Islamic laws, she stood divorced and urged the court to document it.

“I want the court to confirm (document) the divorce and grant me the custody of my five children,” she said.
In his defence, Abdullahi denied the claim, saying he only threatened to divorce her if she did not return home early from school.
He explained that he made the pronouncements because there was an emergency at home which needed her attention.
He said that the situation made him call her so that she could be back early.
“I told her to be back in 30 minutes or face divorce, and she came back in 21 minutes,” he said.
The judge, Musa Saad, adjourned the case till November 5, for the two parties to present their witnesses.
