Residents in Sabo area of Ile-Ife are fleeing their houses as a result of violent clash which broke out between the Hausa and Yoruba traders in the ancient town.
At least, five people were said to have lost their lives in the melee.
As gathered, the fight started brewing on Tuesday, but became full blown on Wednesday, following a disagreement over an issue between a Yoruba man and a Hausa man at Sabo area of Ile-Ife.
Information had it that the Yoruba man was attacked by some Hausa traders, but after the intervention of relevant authorities, the charged atmosphere was calmed.
To ensure the peace of the town was not disturbed, even, Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, was said to have intervened with the assistance of security operatives drafted to the area.
However, an angry mob reportedly stormed Lagere, a neighbouring community, and attacked Hausa traders in retaliation of the beaten of their kinsman.
This was said to have aggravated the situation with led the fight on Wednesday where five people were said to have been killed.
Following the reported killing of five people, youths and traders in Sabo community took to the streets and began setting kiosks, shops and houses ablaze.
“We must deny these groups the undue publicity they crave,” the minister said.
