Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers, on Monday night, abducted a middle-aged man, identified as Idowu Ajayi, in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
Tribune Online gathered that the victim who was travelling in his car was ambushed along Ikole-Ijesa Isu road around 6:30 pm on Monday.
Sources said that the gun-wielding men numbering about ten emerged from the bush and shot the victim’s car repeatedly before he was accosted and moved into the bush.
As of the time of this report, the attackers were yet to contact the family for possible ransom.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Sunday Abutu, confirmed the incident and said efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the victim.
According to him, ” Effort to rescue the victim and arrest the perpetrators has begun since yesterday(Monday) by the joint operation of the police and other security operatives including the Amotekun.”

In a related development, the youths in the troubled local government area of Ikole have pleaded with the governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi to save the people of the council area from rampaging bandits who had been terrorising them.
In a statement by the coordinator of all the twenty-five communities presidents in the local government, Toba Fatunla expressed regret over the latest abduction which he described as, “one too many” in the area.
He explained that ” the spate of kidnapping in Ikole local government area is now very alarming and disheartening.
“On behalf of the group, I frown at this level of insecurity, while calling on the government to rise up to secure the lives of Ikole people. No meaningful development can be achieved in an unsecured environment.
“It is very condemnable that our communities are no longer safe. We as community Presidents are not happy with this development. We call on the government to immediately help us find our brother that was kidnapped while we urge government and security agencies to be alive to secure our people.”
