Gunmen over the weekend invaded the Hwollaza community of Jos North local government area of Plateau and killed a mother and her son, just as another young person was equally murdered in the Daika community of Panyam District of Mangu local government area of the state.
Tribune Online learnt that the gunmen who stormed the Hwollaza community in the early hours of Saturday attacked a family and, in the process, inflicted heavy injuries on three members of the family before they bolted away.
A source close to the family revealed that the three injured persons, identified as Mrs. Mary Jonathan, her son, and one Dickson Timothy, were rushed to the Plateau State Specialist Hospital for treatment by their neighbours.
The source further stated that they were later referred to the Jos University Teaching Hospital, where both the mother and her son gave up the ghost while the third person was still in critical condition.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, who confirmed the incident, said the state commissioner of police, Mr Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, who visited the scene of the incident, has directed the area commanders and the DPO to ensure that they arrest the perpetrators and assured the people of the community to remain calm and go about their lawful businesses.
Also on Sunday, Daika Community in Panyam District of Mangu local government was thrown into mourning as gunmen suspected to be armed militia gun down a young man aged 30, identified as Fwangshak Lesun.
A resident of the community who craved anonymity said the deceased was returning from Mangu to Daika when he was shot several times at close range and taken to the Cottage hospital in the area where he was confirmed dead.
One of the community leaders in Panyam District who did not want his name in print implored both the government and security agencies in the state to come to their aid, adding that cases of attacks by gunmen have increased in recent time.
According to him, farmers are afraid of accessing their farms for fear of being attacked by the rampaging gunmen, adding that if the unfortunate situation persists, it might affect the ongoing harvest of crops.
