A young legal practitioner based in Otukpo, Benue State, Mike Ofikwu, was reportedly killed by gunmen.
The incident, which occurred on Otukpa Street in Otukpo town, has thrown the community into panic and mourning.
According to a source close to his residence, who spoke to journalists in Makurdi on Thursday, the deceased was shot dead on Wednesday night.

The source, who requested anonymity, explained that the deceased was returning home at night when two gunmen approached and shot him.
“Two men armed with guns had laid an ambush for him.
“While the lawyer was waiting for his people to open the gate, the assailants emerged from hiding and shot him at close range.
“He was immediately rushed to the hospital, where medical personnel pronounced him dead,” the source said.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, stated that an investigation into the death of the legal practitioner was ongoing. She assured the public of the command’s commitment to apprehending the perpetrators.
“This incident is confirmed, and the investigation is ongoing,” Anene said. “I commiserate with his family and friends and assure them that justice will be served.”
