THE Ifeanyi Ubah Football Club players were attacked on Friday by some suspected gunmen in Okene, Kogi State while on their way to Kano for a Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) Matchday Six tie with Jigawa Golden Stars.
Tribune Online gathered that the bus that was conveying the players was stopped by men disguised in National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) uniforms who fired gunshots at the spot.
Few players were reportedly injured in the incident and are currently in a local hospital receiving treatments.
Media officer of the club, Mr Iyke Nwokedi, who confirmed the incident to newsmen said the players are fine except the driver who was hit by a stray bullet.

“Most of the players are fine but some are still in shock of the incident and one was injured in the head.
“Majorly, the one affected the most was the driver who was hit by a stray bullet but he’s also somewhere in Kogi currently receiving treatment.”
He cited security reasons for not disclosing the whereabouts of the players who are receiving treatment.
He added that “the most important thing is that we are doing fine, stabilising, and also ensuring that our players get out of their shocks and see if we would be able to play the game on Sunday.”
