Guard killed, another kidnapped as gunmen attack Bafarawa’s house

Some suspected gunmen attacked Bafarawa village in Isa Local Government of Sokoto on Friday evening, where a security guard attached to the house of former governor of the state, Attahiru Bafarawa was killed.

The suspects who specifically entered former Governor Bafarawa’s house in the village, killed his security guard, Abdullahi Jijji and kidnapped one boy in the house with name Abdulrasheed Sa’idu.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Acting Director-General of Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa foundation, Dr Suleiman Shuaib Shinkafi, and released to journalists in Sokoto on Saturday.

According to the statement, “the gunmen arrived at the village in a commando-style around 9 pm on Friday, threatening to wipe out the villages of Bafarawa and Kamarawa from the earth.

“The two villages are under Isa local government area of Sokoto State.

“This is the first time such kind of attack is happening in Bafarawa town, but people of Kamarawa, an adjacent neighbouring village have been experiencing such kind of attacks, killing, kidnapping and burning of their properties.

“Last Thursday, former Governor Bafarawa addressed journalists in Abuja over his commitment towards organising security summit along with other northern leaders under his foundation, Attahiru Bafarawa Foundation to bring a lasting solution to issue of insecurity in the region,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Abubakar Sadiq, who spoke with our correspondent on telephone denied knowledge of gunmen attacks in Bafarawa village and in Isa Local Government area of the state.

He, however, revealed that as soon as the information gets to him, he will let get back to the press. This has however not been as at the time of filing this report.
