THE Kogi Elders Forum (KEF), on Wednesday, said it would resist any attempt to put the multi-billion naira Ajaokuta Steel Company located in the State for sale.
According to the group, concerted efforts, including constitutional means would be employed to stop the sale of the integrated steel company.
The Chairman of the forum, Dr Julius Elukpo, in a statement, said the forum arrived at the position based to a statement credited to the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) that government planned to sell the company and others to fund the 2018 budget.
The KEF maintained that it was strongly against the proposal, describing the government’s proposal as a rude shock.
Elukpo lamented that the federal government had not shown much commitment to the completion of the steel project, saying that the outright sale of the plant would be counterproductive.

He, however, said the forum would make the company a campaign issue for the 2019 election, saying that the people of the State would be mobilised to vote for any presidential candidate that is ready to complete the project.
The statement also deplored the state of Federal roads in the State, calling on the Federal Road Maintenance Agency to move in and get them fixed as soon as possible.
