A group known as the ‘Jemgbagh Progressive Youth Alliance’ has condemned what it described as an unwarranted attack on Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, by one Abua Yajir.
Leader of the group, Douglas Terry, at a press conference held in Gboko on Wednesday, accused Yajir of making spurious allegations against the governor.
The group insisted that despite the attack on the governor, the Jemgbagh intermediate area of the state would continue to rally support for the governor and President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Terry accused Yajir, an aide to the former governor of the state and presently the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, of creating an imaginary enemy between the governor and the SGF.
Terry said, “One Abua Yaji made some wide, malicious, and unverifiable allegations against the Chief Servant of Benue State, His Excellency Reverend Father Doctor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, that have been making the rounds in the media.
“His spurious allegation against Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia of diverting state funds amounting to over four billion naira to unseat the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sir George Akume, is not only false but also a deliberate attempt to distract the attention of the Chief Servant of Benue State from the good work his administration is doing, for which he is being applauded by the masses, regardless of their political or religious inclinations.
“It is, therefore, both disheartening and utterly unacceptable that certain individuals within our clan, most notably Mr. Abua Yajir, have resorted to unwarranted and disparaging criticisms against a governor who has continually demonstrated his commitment to the progress and welfare of the masses. Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, since assuming office, has given attention to the welfare of workers, both at the state and local government levels.”
The group regretted that some people in the Jemgbagh axis might be attacking the governor but maintained that Alia’s administration inclusive governance model has demonstrated that the governor values the contributions of the Jemgbagh people and strives for representation and equity.
The group also regretted that the few people from Jemgbagh making spurious allegations against the governor were not true representatives of the region.
Terry insisted that the group would continue to rally support for the re-election of Governor Alia and President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
“Jemgbagh Progressive Youth Alliance hereby extends our unreserved support to Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their re-election bid in 2027.
“We believe that together, we can continue this journey of transformation, progress, and unprecedented development for our beloved Jemgbagh, Benue, and Nigeria at large.”
