Group sensitises pregnant women, nursing mothers in Ibadan

A non-governmental organisation, Gamma Galleon, has donated baby items to nursing and pregnant women in Ibadan North Local Government Area of Ibadan.

Speaking with Tribune online during the presentation of the items which held at Idiogungun Primary Health Centre, Ibadan, publicity secretary of the organisation, Emmanuel Omovuhowhe, stated that it is one of the organisation’s moves to mark this year’s World Breastfeeding Week and as part of efforts to affect the immediate environment.

“This year, we are here again to reach out to pregnant women, mothers and their children by giving our widow’s mite. Our organisation is spread across five states and Oyo state is the zonal headquarters.”

Also speaking with the Tribune online, Chief Nursing Officer, Idiogungun Primary Health Centre, Mrs Christiana Fatunmobi, who disclosed that the organisation was at the Health Centre to speak to nursing mothers and pregnant women on the importance of breastfeeding expressed appreciation to Gamma Galleon for the kind gesture.

Fatunmobi, further informed that giving children only breast milk is important for the development of their brain so that when they grow up, they too would be able to take care of their mothers.

One of the mothers present at the event, Mrs Folashade Adewale, while speaking with the Tribune online, expressed gratitude to Gamma Galleon, while also calling on other organisations to emulate the gesture.

Another mother, Mrs Faith Okikiola, thanked Gamma Galleon, saying she would forever be grateful.
