As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), an Ibadan-based socio-cultural group, Gbajumo Ladies Club, has empowered over 1,000 aged people and widows with food items and other materials worth millions of naira in Oyo and Ogun states.
The presentation was done over the weekend at the premises of the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS).
In an address read on her behalf, the President of the Club, Mrs Oluyemisi Olaniyi, said the gesture is aimed at cushioning the effect of the present economic hardship in the country, especially as it affects aged people and young widows in the society.
She added that aside from the presentation of food and other items to the beneficiaries, free medical tests are being carried out to let them know their health status. As an aged person, according to her, a dietician is invited to lecture them on the kinds of foods to eat.
According to her, “The Club has reached out to about a thousand elderly women in Oloomore, Imeko, and Iseyin Ijebu in Ogun State.
“We are in Ibadan, Oyo State, to reaffirm our commitment to our mission and to reinvigorate our efforts towards the vulnerable elderly in the areas of pep talks on how to enjoy old age, medicals, and food sharing.
In 2025, we will focus more on reaching out to the vulnerable elderly, poor widows with young children, and school programs.”
In their response, the beneficiaries thanked the organisers for their benevolence and stressed the need for corporate organisations and private individuals to be kind to the vulnerable elderly persons in society.
The club officials are Iyabo Isaac, Ayodele Balogun, Olubunmi Olokodana, and Oluyemisi Olaniyi.
