Group commends Tinubu’s economic initiatives

A group christened ‘Grassroot Support for Tinubu 2027- The 1019 Initiative’ has lauded the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to rejig the economy and urged Nigerians, irrespective of their political tribes, and religious affiliations to support the policies and initiatives being put in place to reposition the country.

The convener of the group, Tersoo David Ukechir told newsmen in Jos, Plateau State, that the cause of the hardship being experienced in the country is a result of years of misguided policies and poor governance by the previous governments, adding the economy nosedived under their watch without measures to arrest the situation.

“The difficulty in the country is unfortunate. Our president inherited a situation that needed tough decisions for us to be pulled out of the mess created by the previous administration. Some will argue that the dollar wasn’t this high before, but the question is: what was the government doing to the dollar? Were they taking money meant for development and pushing the dollar down artificially?

“The reality is that we had to allow the bubble to burst. The previous government tried to prevent it, but the economic mismanagement over eight years couldn’t last. Now, the market forces are taking their course. The hardship we are experiencing is an effect of that.”

He stated that the recent Supreme Court judgement on local government autonomy will propel development at the grassroots and as well reduce migration to state capitals and other urban centres across the country.

Said he: This is part of the achievements of this administration and part of the plans to reposition the country. If enforced, it will decongest state capitals, and young people in local government areas will now have access to contracts of N5 million, N10 million, and so on. This will reduce the migration to state and federal capitals for projects.

“I can assure you that the hardships in the country are temporary because the president and his team are not folding their arms and everything is going to be fine because he loves this country and believes in it. He will never allow it to fall. This gives me the energy to keep pushing for him,” he said.

The Convener, who said President Tinubu needs the support of everyone, disclosed that the GST 1029 Initiative has since embarked on some projects such as boreholes, medical outreaches, and solar-powered boreholes in states across the country to complement and support the efforts of the administration.

“This has caused us millions of naira, but we are not relenting; over 140 projects have been completed; a good example is the girls’ school. We are renovating a school with 200 students that was in a dilapidated state. We are bringing it up to standard because this is what our president stands for: action, not just promises for the next election.

“As for the grassroots support for Tinubu, we started campaigning for him three years and seven months ago. Our campaign strategy is about delivering real benefits to the people, not just waiting for the election season.”
