The founder of the Christian Widows and Widowers Empowered Initiatives, Nigeria (CWWE), Beatrice Yesufu, has charged Christian widows to live a righteous and pure life devoid of sin.
Yesufu, who also advised the widows not to defile their bodies, gave the charge at the fourth edition of the annual empowerment and thanksgiving service of the group held at the Trinity House, Lagos, Nigeria.
No fewer than 1,000 widows and widowers who attended the event were encouraged and received a renewed mindset about their widowhood journey
Speaking on the aims of the organisation, Yesufu, who also doubles as the Executive Director, disclosed that the Christian Widows and Widowers Initiatives Nigeria aims to empower, educate, equip, inspire, and encourage widows and widowers, along with their children, on the total human well-being which are Spiritual, emotional, mental, economic and social well-being, to become sound-minded individuals and self-sufficient.
She said, “I encourage you today to learn a skill to add value and improve your financial income,” Yesufu said.
“God is set to train your hands to make wealth this year. Again, ‘Holiness unto the Lord.’ The Bible says that without holiness, no one can see the Lord. You must live a pure life, a life without sin. You must be thirsty for God’s word by His power through His Holy Spirit.
The Bible declares that God is the husband of widows, and if they want God to be their husband, they must be pure in all areas of life, as Yesufu emphasised. She advised the widows not to be backbiters but instead to pray for the church, their children, and the country so that their lives can reflect the favour and joy of the Lord.”
The RCCG Intercontinental Evangelist, Pastor J.T. Kalejaiye, who was a guest minister at the event, shared his personal story of losing his father in the first year of his birth and not knowing his siblings until later in life.
He assured the widows that though they may feel lonely, they are not alone, as God will carry and provide for them. He read from Psalm 23. “What God has finished cannot finish you. Your pain will end in prayer. You are neither an object of pity nor of envy. Your vision will become a reality,” he encouraged.
The host, Pastor Ituah Ighodalo, commended the visionary, Beatrice Yesufu, for bringing her dream to reality and encouraged the widows and widowers to keep believing in the promises of God. He prayed for the attendees according to Psalm 68:1–5.
Ighodalo also called on individuals to support the widow community, saying, “I encourage everyone to support the widow community. Let’s come together and make a difference in the lives of our widows and their children.”
Yesufu also announced that the CWWE will continue to provide scholarships to the children of widows born after bereavement to help them pursue their education and achieve their dreams. She urged the widows to take advantage of their annual skills acquisition programmes and scholarship opportunities to better their lives and the lives of their children.
She added, “As we call on individuals and organisations to help us give support to our widowed community. The work is enormous; the overall total well-being of the widow community is our concern.”
