Libyan returnees of Anambra States origin have successfully arrived in the state and have been received by the state government.
The returnees were ten males and one female.
The stories of the returnees were indeed better seen than imagined as they took turn to tell their traumatic, emotional and suicidal journey stories.
According to a graduate of Applied Microbiology from the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka who hailed from Ogidi Idemili North local government area, Mr. Ndubuisi Okwudiba, said he left with other Nigerians for Libya in 2016 and they went to the land of the dead in search of greener pastures but thanked God that they were alive to tell their pathetic stories as no event, no history.
The Ogidi born applied Microbiology graduate regretted that many Nigerians are still languishing in various inhumane and underground prisons in the Arab nation that is extremely difficult to locate and commended the Federal and state government for coming to their rescue.
For another returnee, Chinedu Onyagu said Libya is the worst country a foreigner can live in, adding that what is happening in that country is beyond a humanitarian crisis.
The Commissioner for Social Welfare, Children and Women’s Affairs, in the State Mrs Victoria Chikwelu, while receiving the returnees on behalf the Governor at the Government House Awka, said that Governor Willie Obiano is determined to ensure that they are fully integrated into the society, as they have suffered so much psychological and emotional trauma.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Joe Akabuike who listed the type of foods they will be eating at the interim because of starvation they suffered in the Libya prison, said the ministry will immediately dispatch a medical team that will ascertain their medical conditions but said that so far, none of the returnees was looking unhealthy.
