A gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State, Dr Bawa Shitgurum, has promised to provide purposeful leadership that will turn the fortunes of the state around if elected as governor of the state comes 2019.
Dr Shitgurum who stated this while declaring for the governorship of the state at his ward in Kwande, Quan’Pan local government area of the state said he joined the race to make a difference in the lives of the people using both his local and international business connections to make Plateau a business destination in Nigeria.
According to him, Plateau is blessed with both human and natural resources that cut across the 17 local government areas of the state and these need to be tapped by a well focused leaders for the benefit of the people of the state.
Shitgurum said Plateau State remains a stronghold of the Peoples Democratic Party in the country, stressing that those of them that left for APC in 2015 because of the refusal of the former governor of the state, Senator Jonah Jang, as at then to allow a power shift from Plateau North to the Southern part of the state.

According to him: “We are fully back to PDP on the plateau following the new zoning arrangement of the party, which has given my senatorial zone the right to produce the next governor of the state in 2019.”
“Haven seen the manifestoes of the two major political parties; the PDP and APC and what they promise to do for the people of this country if they are in power, the PDP’s performance in government for 16 years in the country provided better economic fortunes for the people of Nigeria than what Nigerians have experienced under change government of All Progressive Congress in the last three years.”
The gubernatorial aspirant, who said the contest was not a do or die affair, called on his fellow aspirants to bring to the table what they can offer the people of Plateau so that the best candidate will emerge as the winner of the primaries and the eventual governorship election billed for February 2019 on the Plateau.
Shitgurum, said he has the experience and what it takes to bring lasting peace to troubled communities in his state through purposeful dialogue and compromises among the warring parties to Plateau conflicts.
He added that he was overwhelmed with the turn out of his teaming supporters to welcome him to his Kwande country home in Qua’anpan local government council of the state, assuring them that he would not let them if he emerged as the next governor of the state in 2019.
According to him, Plateau state has suffered in recent years from the challenges of lack of good roads and infrastructures , assuring the people of his state that they could fair better if they are provide opportunity to go into modern mechanised farming and ways of doing business to better their lots in the next dispensation if he is given their mandate to become their governor with a difference.
