Ebonyi State Government has promised to introduce mechanised farming in the grassroots area of the state to boost food production.

The Commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs. Nkechinyere Iyioku, disclosed this at the weekend while interacting with some journalists in Abakaliki.

According to the Commissioner, the mechanized method will ease the farmers’ stress they encounter during farming, improve the skills and productivity of farmers, and security in the state.

She further noted that mechanized methods of farming in the state will also boost the economy of the State thereby reducing poverty and food insecurity challenges in the State.

She, however, assured that all Local Government Areas in the state would be beneficiaries of the Nwifuru reforms in the agricultural sector.

“I want to thank the governor for this appointment he has given me. We know that Ebonyi is known as an agrarian state and because of their rich agricultural prowess, this administration will be taking it to another level by mechanizing farming.

“I’ll make sure Farmers especially at the grassroots are beneficiaries of this mechanization reform because it will reduce poverty and achieve food security while improving Ebonyian’s livelihoods.

“You know we used to hear the theory that many farmers before now, if any inputs are given to them, sometimes they won’t get it even when they are the real Farmers. I assure Ebonyians that such will never happen under my watch”

“Most of our rural women are all farmers and this time around, they will benefit. We will revamp the strategies whereby every farmer in the state is supported by the state government to improve their skills and produce,” she said.
