Gov Bello lauds FUT Minna for championing entrepreneurship education

Gov Abubakar Bello of Niger has commended the management of  Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna,  for championing entrepreneurship education in Nigeria.

A statement issued on Wednesday in Minna by Mrs Lydia Legbo, the institution’s spokesperson, quoted the governor as giving  the commendation at the grand finale of the university’s 3rd Entrepreneurship Week.

The week entitled, “Entrepreneurship: A Major Tool for Technological Advancement in Nigeria,’’ was organised by the university’s Department of Entrepreneurship and Business Studies.

The governor, represented by the State Head of Service, Yabagi Sule, said the university’s decision to dedicate a department for  entrepreneurship programme was commendable.

“Entrepreneurship education is a lifelong process that we need to embrace.

“Starting from the elementary school and progressing  through all levels of education, it  is the only way to prepare our youths and adults to succeed in the present entrepreneurial economy,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Musbau Akanji,  congratulated the department for organising the event, saying the management was  proud of the department’s achievements.

Akanji said the university was the only one  to accord entrepreneurship a department in line with the mission of the institution.

According to him, by introducing the Entrepreneurship Students’ Savings and Investment Cooperative Society, the department has scored another milestone in educational achievements.

Akanji, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics, Prof Oluwole  Morenikeji, urged students of the department to take advantage of the scheme to make their business ideas a reality.

He said through TETFUND support,  the university had begun the construction of a lecture theatre for the School of Entrepreneurship and Management Technology.

Akanji added that a Hilux van would be delivered to the department before Saturday.

The Head of Department, Entrepreneurship and Business Studies, Dr Mercy Adeyeye, expressed appreciation to all  those who honoured  the department’s invitation.
