Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, on Tuesday, inaugurated a high-level visitation panel for the state-owned Sa’adu Zungur University in a bid to address recent agitations by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) branch of the institution on improved working condition.
The panel is tasked with the responsibility of investigating the root causes of the recent industrial action by the ASUU members, reviewing the financial operations of the institution, and developing a framework and strategy for effective and harmonious operations.
Speaking at the inauguration held at the Government House, Bauchi, Bala Mohammed emphasized his administration’s commitment to education, citing progressive increases in budgetary allocation to the sector.
He urged the panel members to leverage their expertise towards achieving meaningful results explaining that his decision to constitute the panel was necessitated by happenings in the institution which is in no doubt hampering effective and efficient teaching and learning.
Bala Mohammed also said that education, as the bedrock of any meaningful development informed his administration’s decision to always accord full attention to the all-important sector as required.
The Governor then told Members of the panel that they are to undertake measures that will tackle and eradicate all of the various challenges facing the institution particularly the not-too-good relationship between the ASUU, NASU and the Management in spite of his personal intervention to return sanity to the Institution.
While reading out the Panel’s terms of reference, the Governor charged the members to complete their assignment and submit the report to the Government within eight weeks from the date of their inauguration.
He assured that his Administration’s commitment to providing more infrastructure to the state-owned premier tertiary Institutions is unshaken in order to allow the teeming youths to study.
Responding on behalf of the Members, Chairperson of the Panel, Professor Gambo Laraba Abdullahi thanked the Governor for finding them worthy of selection to serve the state in that capacity.
Gambo Laraba Abdullahi assured the Governor of their dedication to fulfilling the mandate and delivering a comprehensive report that will guide the Government in making decisions that will improve activities in the University.
