Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has been honoured with the Honorary Advocate Fellow of the Counselling Association of Nigeria (AFCASSON) in recognition of his outstanding contributions to humanity and his impact on the education sector.
The award was presented during the 49th International Conference of the Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON), held at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
Receiving the award on behalf of the governor, the former Director of Guidance and Counselling, Niger State Universal Basic Education Board, Hajiya Aishatu Indo Abubakar, expressed appreciation to the CASSON family for finding him worthy of the honour.
She noted that the governor remains committed to transforming the education sector in the state and described the award as a motivation for him to do even more for humanity.

The Governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, represented by his deputy, Dr. Idris Muhammad Gobir, commended the choice of theme for the conference, “Digitalization and Counselling in the 21st Century”, describing it as timely given the pace at which Information Technology is redefining all facets of human endeavour.
In his remarks, the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar III, advocated for the positive utilization of IT, stressing that it would significantly modernize counselling practices while promoting societal growth and development.
The Advocate Fellow of the Counselling Association of Nigeria (AFCASSON) is the highest honour of the association, conferred on non-members who have dedicated their energy and resources towards advancing the ideals of counselling in Nigeria.
