The Diocesan Bishop of Lagos, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Reverend Ifedola Senasu, has called on Nigerians to hope in God amidst the country’s current challenges of insecurity, economic hardship, and social injustices.
The Bishop made this known in his Good Friday message in a statement issued to Tribune Online on Thursday.
The clergyman noted that the teaching of Good Friday is hope in the face of despair, explaining that Christ’s crucifixion testifies to the transformative power of love and forgiveness.
He further explained that Christ’s followers are called to embody the message of redemption and compassion.
Sesanu, therefore, tasked Nigerians on cohesiveness amongst themselves, praying for the country’s leadership and those in need.
The diocesan bishop advised committing themselves to emulating the lessons of Christ’s sacrifice, rising above the petty squabbles, and embracing unity, compassion, and selfless service.
“In the face of challenges that our beloved Nigeria faces—be it insecurity, economic hardships, or social injustices—let us anchor our hope in the Passion of Christ.
“Good Friday teaches us that even in moments of despair, hope is never far away. Christ’s crucifixion is a testament to the transformative power of love and forgiveness.
“As followers of Christ, we are called not only to reflect on His suffering but also to embody His message of redemption and compassion in our daily lives.
“Let us use this time to come together as a community of faith, reaching out to those in need, offering support, and fostering peace among our neighbours. In doing so, we imitate the love that Christ has shown us. I urge you to pray for one another, for our leaders, and for all those who are suffering. May we be instruments of healing in our communities.
“This Good Friday, let us commit ourselves anew to emulating the lessons of Christ’s sacrifice. Let us rise above the petty squabbles and embrace unity, compassion, and selfless service. Let us strive to be leaders who serve, not rule; who inspire hope, not despair; who embody the love and forgiveness that Jesus so freely gave. Let us all, leaders and led alike, work towards building a Nigeria where justice, peace, and prosperity reign supreme,” he said.
