In its resolve to promote family health issues, the Gombe state government has disclosed that plans are underway by them to decongest the state Specialist Hospital by expanding the operational capabilities of the Woman and Children Hospital in the metropolis in order to accommodate more medical cases.
The disclosure was made by the Secretary to the State Government, (SSG), Prof.Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi when he paid an unscheduled visit to the Women and Children Hospital, Gombe.
The SSG who was conducted round the facility by the Medical Director, Dr. Bello Alimi expressed dismay over the underutilization of the facility.
While noting the numerous challenges of the one hundred and fifty-bed capacity hospital, Abubakar Njodi said that his visit was at the instance of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya and instructed the management to put forward basic requirements that would make service delivery effective.

The SSG further said that the Inuwa Yahaya led APC administration is committed to meeting the health needs of the citizens of the state.
The Medical Director of Women and Children Dr.Bello Alimi enumerated the challenges of the hospital to include, shortage of manpower in all departments,need for partitioning of consulting clinics to provide privacy for patients among others.
The Secretary to the State Government was also at the headquarters of the Ministry of health where he interacted with top management staff on the need for speedy action just as he charged them to forward the immediate challenges of the hospital for prompt action as contained in a statement by Joshua Danmalam, Information officer office of the SSG.
