The Gombe State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 32-year-old mother of four, Hauwau Abubakar, who died at a rice mill.
The Command, in a statement by the PPRO, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, informed members of the public that the tragic incident occurred on 07/09/2025 at about 1030hrs in Tumu Community, Akko LGA.
According to him, Hauwau Abubakar, while at the rice mill to buy rice from Muhammad Danjuma 29-year- old, a rice miller, the machine unfortunately got her clothing entangled with the rotating belt of the rice milling machine, forcefully dragged her, resulting in a severe neck injury.
The victim was immediately rushed to the Cottage Hospital, Tumo, where a medical doctor sadly confirmed her dead.
Her remains have since been released to the family for burial according to Islamic rites.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Yahaya, expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and the entire community over the painful loss of life.
The Command used the medium to advise members of the public, especially workers and traders at rice mills, grinding machines, and similar mechanical equipment, to take safety precautions.
They should keep a safe distance by avoid standing too close to moving belts, grinding machines, and milling equipment as well as wear proper clothing and refrain from wearing flowing garments or scarves that can easily get caught in machines.
They are to ensure supervision and keep children and non-staff away from operating machines and install machine guards as operators are strongly advised to provide protective guards around belts, pulleys, and grinders.
More importantly, they should report unsafe practices by promptly alerting authorities about hazardous handling of machines.
The Gombe State Police Command assured the public of its unwavering commitment to safety and the protection of lives at all times.
