Gombe police arrests, parades 28 criminals

IN its continued fight against crime, Gombe State Police Command has arrested and paraded twenty-eight alleged notorious criminals with four of them identified to be notorious rapists living in different parts of Gombe town.

While parading the suspects before Journalists at the State Police Command, the Police Commissioner, Shina Tairu Olukolu said that most of the criminals who are commonly called Kalare (political thugs), were arrested for different crimes ranging from theft, armed robbery, maiming and causing injuries to rival gangs and other innocent members of the public during political campaigns as well as abduction and rape of innocent ladies.

Shina Olukolu gave names of the three of the alleged abductors and rapists as Abubakar Mohammed, Abdullahi Bello and Yusuf Munkaila Daiyyabu whose ages are 19, 17 and 19 years respectively.

The Police Boss further explained that they were arrested in a case of criminal conspiracy, abduction and rape based on a complaint by one Abdulaziz Jimoh that on the 20th August 2018, the suspects and others at large conspired and abducted his daughter and her friend who are aged 16 and 17 years.

He said that the girls were taken to a forest along Kumo road by the suspects who allegedly assaulted then sexually adding that the suspects have already confessed to having confessed to the crime and will soon be charged to court.

On the political thugs, the Commissioner of Police said that on the 15th September 2018, the DPO in charge of Akko Division in Akko Local Government Area of the State received credible information that on the same day, some political thugs ‘AKA’ Kalare boys namely Adamu Abubakar 20 years, Suleiman Mohammed 20 years, Yahaya Ibrahim 19 years and Abdullahi Idu 20 years, all of Kumo town, in concert with other criminals at large, conspired and attacked innocent passersby with cutlasses and sticks at Tashan Magarya after a political rally in Kumo town.

Shina Olukolu said further that the suspects were caught during a violent internal disagreement as a result of sharing formula over monetary gifts given to them by their political patron and in the process of effecting their arrest, a Police officer was also injured by one of the hoodlums using a knife.

He said that all the suspects have confessed to having committed the crime and would soon be charged to court while exhibits recovered from them after conducting a search included one cutlass and one axe.

Shina Olukolu who appealed to politicians in the State to play the game according to the rules also called on them to assist the Police to combat and eradicate the menace of Kalare boys by refusing to patronize the common criminals during the political activities.
